1000 g in 1 l has a density of 1000 kg/m³ (1 g/cm³).

How it works

  • Converted the mass to kilograms and the volume to cubic metres using exact SI factors.
  • Divided the mass by the volume to get the density.
  • Converted kg/m³ to g/cm³ by dividing by 1000 (1 g/cm³ = 1000 kg/m³).

ρ = m / V = 1000 g / 1 l = 1000 kg/m³
  • Density is an intensive property of the material at the measured conditions.

Methodology

  1. Convert the mass to kilograms using the exact factor for its unit (kg 1, g 0.001, mg 0.000001, lb 0.45359237).
  2. Convert the volume to cubic metres (m³ 1, L 0.001, cm³ 0.000001, mL 0.000001).
  3. Divide the mass in kg by the volume in m³ to obtain the density in kg/m³, then divide by 1000 for g/cm³.
  4. Round the result to 12 significant digits.

Usage

  1. Enter the mass and choose its unit.
  2. Enter the volume and choose its unit.
  3. Read the density in kg/m³ and g/cm³ and the division that produced it.

Limitations

Exact unit factors

Mass and volume factors are the exact SI/definition values: 1 g = 0.001 kg, 1 mL = 1 cm³ = 0.000001 m³ and 1 L = 0.001 m³. The international pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg. Because the factors are exact, the only approximation is the final rounding.

Frequently asked questions

Is a density of 1000 kg/m³ the same as 1 g/cm³?
Yes. 1 g/cm³ equals 1000 kg/m³ exactly, because 1 g = 0.001 kg and 1 cm³ = 0.000001 m³.
How many pounds make a kilogram?
One kilogram is exactly 0.45359237 lb inverse, i.e. 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg by the international avoirdupois definition.
