Generated a .gitignore with 20 pattern(s) across 2 section(s).

How it works

  • Collected the curated pattern table for 2 selected ecosystem(s): node, python.
  • Merged the custom lines, trimmed blanks and removed duplicate patterns.
  • Wrote one commented section per ecosystem followed by a Custom section.
  • The file is a starting point: review it against your repository before committing.
  • No network request is made; everything is composed in this page.

Methodology

  1. Map each selected ecosystem id to its curated pattern table.
  2. De-duplicate patterns while preserving table order, then append the trimmed custom lines.
  3. Emit a header comment and one commented section per ecosystem, followed by a Custom section.

Usage

  1. Select the ecosystems your repository uses.
  2. Add any custom patterns, one per line.
  3. Run the generator and copy or download the .gitignore.

Examples

These are examples, not current values: they use fixed inputs, while the interactive tool computes live results in your browser.

Node and Python

jsonSelect to copy
{
  "ecosystems": [
    "node",
    "python"
  ],
  "customPatterns": ""
}

Node with custom build output

jsonSelect to copy
{
  "ecosystems": [
    "node"
  ],
  "customPatterns": "# Local overrides\n.local/\n*.local.env"
}

Limitations

What a generated .gitignore does and does not do

The patterns are the ones a project of that ecosystem commonly ignores: build output, dependency directories and local environment files. They are deliberately conservative and never include a real secret.

A .gitignore only affects untracked files. If a file is already tracked, add it to the ignore list and remove it from the index separately.

Frequently asked questions

Is my input sent anywhere?
No. The file is composed in the page with a pure function; no request, storage or logging is involved.
Can I combine several ecosystems?
Yes. Each selected ecosystem contributes its own commented section and the patterns are de-duplicated across sections.
